Our February 9th session went very well. Four volunteers contributed their time to teach Chinese to the children at Chandler School. We used AI technology and videos to teach the students. The students learned about dialogues that are commonly used during a birthday party, including how to say “happy birthday” and “birthday present.” First, the students learned the whole conversation in Chinese as a class. Then, they separated in three groups and each group was led by one volunteer. The volunteers were in charge of getting them more familiar with the dialogue. At last, the class came back together and had a little “competition”. Students from different groups will have a conversation with the person on the projector and the AI would pick up the sounds and tell them their level of accuracy. All in all, most students participated in the competition and showed great interest for Chinese.
