I taught Janet for two hours today. We talked about our Thanksgiving feast and the unique traditions our families used to celebrate the holiday. We were able to read two short passages when we realized a shocking similarity. We discovered that the passage “去学校” was actually based on the song “上学歌”. We later listened to the song and I learned that Janet enjoys singing. She loved the song, and I was happy to hear that she was able to learn Chinese through something she enjoys. During the lesson, we dissected each sentence into distinct characters and learned their pronunciations through Pinyin. She was able to understand the sentences better and was more comfortable with Pinyin!
